I hear all the time from people wanting their golf game to improve. People complaining that their score just isn’t getting better. We all want to get better at golf. We want the low scores, and we want to be able to do it like the pros on TV. We wonder what we are doing wrong, why we aren’t getting better. I’m going to let you in on a little secret…we don’t play enough.
Most of us are weekend/once a month players. We don’t get on the course enough, and we definitely don’t go to the range and practice enough. We can’t expect greatness from mediocrity. To get better you have to practice better, and to practice better you have to practice right. To practice right you have to practice more.
So let’s get to practicing more. You have to set aside time for golf. With this you have to get your priorities in order. If you have responsibilities like a family or career that takes up most of your time then you have to realize it will take longer. Don’t take time from your family to play golf. Trust me…your family is very important. Golf is just a game that in the end will leave you empty. Your family should be your priority. If you have time on your hands and want your golf game to improve then you need to get on the range. You don’t get better sitting on the couch. Get out there and practice.
Next you need to practice right. Get lessons, video your swing, and practice approaches. Video taping your swing will show your mistakes so you can correct them. Practice approach shots. Aim your shots, and try to place your shots. Don’t go to the range and just hit the ball. You gain nothing from that so learn to put it where you want it. Learn why you do what you do in your swing that is right. This is so you gain confidence. Practice your wedge shots and putting. Doing these over and over again will gain muscle memory. That is what will help you in the later part of a round when you get fatigued. Do these things and you will get better.
Doing these things will greatly improve your game and lower your scores. Don’t expect overnight success, these things take time. Don’t get discouraged! This is a game after all. When it is all said and done, you started playing this game because it is fun. So keep it fun and enjoy it!
